Apple cuts online prices
Apple Computer recently cut the prices by up to $1,000 on several of its high end computers, sold through its web site.

The special offers were unveiled ahead of the recent Macworld show, an event where Apple traditionally unveils new products.

The largest price reduction was $1,100 off a 500 MHz G4 server, the price of which was cut from $4,199 to $3,099. The 450 MHz version of the G4 Cube, which has failed to meet demand hopes, was also cut to $1,499 from $1,799. The top-of-the-range Powerbook notebook computer was cut by $800 to $2,199.

Apple had also offered rebates of up to $500 to help lift Christmas sales and said it aimed to move a glut of unsold machines. The company also promised to clean out the sales channel, which its said held some 11 weeks of inventory.
