| Integrating e-business apps, making them run faster and providing built-in analytics will be key functions of Oracles next generation database and application server platform.
The Oracle 9i database aims to fulfill the companys effort to integrate the bulk of its product line into a closely related application server and database. The new version of the database will offer integrated business intelligence functionality, including tools for online analytic processing (OLAP), data mining and data extraction.
In addition, the company disclosed a new Java OLAP API. And Oracle will also release the Oracle Warehouse Builder 3i data warehouse design and deployment tool, which includes metadata management integration, new data mapping and transformation features, and a flat file integration interface.
With the integration of multidimensional analysis tools and the relational database, Oracle follows the path that several suppliers of databases and analytic tools have recently taken. IBM resells Hyperion Solutions Corp.s EssBase OLAP tool integrated with its DB2 database, and Microsoft offers OLAP and data-mining tools in the latest version of its SQL Server database.
