| In a bid to catch up with corporate IT initiatives, the U.S. Navy is about to embark on one of the largest intranet consolidation efforts in the federal governments history. Sources said the Navy is set to award the huge $16 billion IT outsourcing project to a single vendor.
The Navy now contends with an estimated 25 disparate networks and hundreds of LANs used for managing information on everything from equipment inventories to personnel deployment.
Observers said a single network with a standard set of applications should help Navy personnel handle tasks that range from preparing for military missions to simplifying general business tasks. |
