Washington leads in high-tech wages
The high-tech industry created more than new jobs in the U.S. between 1993 and 1998, the American Electronics Association said in a recent study.

The study found that the electronics and information technology industry — which includes software and computer-related services, manufacturing, and communications services — employed 4.8 million workers in 1998, — 1 million more than in 1993.

High-tech industry workers averaged $53,145 in 1997, about 77 percent more than the average private sector wage. Washington State added 35,883 high-tech jobs between 1990 and 1997, for a total of 97,025 workers.

The average wage for high-tech workers in Washington in 1999 was $81,375 — higher than in any other state.
