| Dell plans this year to offer a corporate version of its software tool for automatically diagnosing and correcting problems that crop up on its PCs.
The company plans to pilot the corporate version of its Resolution Assistant software next quarter, and to make it generally available in the fourth quarter. The corporate version of Resolution Assistant is expected to help companies save $200 to $300 in total cost of ownership per user per year, Dell said.
The high degree of savings will come because most problems that crop up on a PC are software problems, which can theoretically be solved by phone and by transmitting software patches over the Internet. However, most help-desks dont have the capability to diagnose and solve these problems remotely, so they end up having to dispatch a technician to solve the problem on-site. |
