Ellison admits to spying on Gates
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison acknowledged that he authorized an investigation of Microsoft’s allies, but claimed he didn’t know the name of the detective firm hired and disclosed the results of the probe as soon as he was made aware of them.

Ellison met with reporters and analysts at the company’s Redwood Shores, Calif., headquarters to discuss the company’s latest packaging of products for building Internet-based commerce sites.

However, the product announcements were eclipsed by questions on Oracle’s disclosure the day before that it hired a firm to investigate Microsoft allies and disclose internal documents to the media about Microsoft’s political activities.
