Uunet offers virtual ISP service
Uunet has unveiled a virtual ISP service aimed at smaller ISPs and companies that want to provide Internet access and other business applications to customers.

The ISP Program allows companies tap into Uunet’s network and portfolio of services that range from e-mail to domain name registration, according to Brad Wise, Uunet’s vice president of channel sales.

A series of partnerships, meanwhile, with companies such as Cisco Systems, Lucent Technologies and IBM will enable ISPs participating in the program to equip their sites with specially priced hardware and software.

Wise said the ISP Program differs from Uunet’s other private-label initiatives because end-user customers will connect to Uunet through their ISPs’ connection instead of being linked directly to Uunet.
