Technology group hosts forum on information security for business

WSTA EventWest Sound Technology Association will host a forum on Information Security in Today’s Business Environment on March 21 in Poulsbo.

Information security affects every organization. Whether you’re a sole proprietorship, public sector organization, or a multinational corporation, directly or indirectly, the threats in today’s world can and will impact you.

This presentation will discuss current security threats and trends including malware, cloud-based computing risks, mobile devices in the workplace, and critical infrastructure. Staying ahead of the threat landscape is a daily challenge and all organizations, public and private, must not only implement mitigation controls, but monitor those controls and be fully prepared to respond when a breach or security incident occurs.

The forum will discuss real-world experiences, lessons learned, and steps your organization can take to improve your containment and response capabilities.

The presenters will be Mike Hamilton, chief information security officer for the City of Seattle, and Brian Morkert, president of Audit West IT Risk and Consulting Advisory Services.

The event will be held in Council Chambers at Poulsbo City Hall, 200 NE Moe St. There will be networking and refreshments from 5:30-6 p.m. before the presentation. The event is free for WSTA members, or $10 for nonmembers.
