Bainbridge Island bookstore owner takes on two business partners

René Kirkpatrick, Tim Hunter, and Morley Horder of Eagle Harbor Book CompanyAfter 15 years as sole owner of Eagle Harbor Book Company, Morley Horder has announced that the bookstore’s manager, Tim Hunter, and Pacific Northwest bookseller René Kirkpatrick will become partners in the business.

Hunter and Kirkpatrick will be the managing partners, responsible for day-to-day operations of the store. Horder will remain active on the business side and as an advisor to the new partners.

“Tim and René both love and are passionately committed to the independent book store business’” Horder said in a news release. “They have, combined, nearly 40 years in the bookselling business. They understand the role of technology in the ever-evolving retail world, but they strongly believe that the heart of our business is the one-on-one personal relationship we have with our customers, with the goal of putting the right book in each customer’s hands.”

Hunter has been the manager at Eagle Harbor for nearly a year. Kirkpatrick, who is a new face to the Bainbridge Island community, has worked at numerous bookstores for more than 30 years.

“I care passionately about this community and passionately about its bookstore,” Horder said in the news release. “When I bought Eagle Harbor Book Company 15 years ago, I assumed the stewardship of a now 42-year-old Bainbridge Island treasure. My goal for Eagle Harbor Book Company has always been to be one of the best independent bookstores in the country.

“Tim and René’s passion, knowledge, and leadership will help ensure that Eagle Harbor Books will continue be a successful, vital, thriving part of the Bainbridge Island and Kitsap community for another 42 years.”
