| General Motors (GM) has launched the Womens Retail Initiative, a program designed to attract more women into the firms retail organization as dealer owners and operators of its franchised dealerships.
GM is the first automaker to initiate a program aimed exclusively at putting more women into automotive retailing. The program, which will be patterned after GMs successful Minority Dealer Development Program, will also work to help dealers create a process for recruiting, developing and promoting women into key dealership management positions.
GM has 7,500 franchised dealerships across the United States, 203 of which are owned by women.
We believe that balancing the gender mix in our franchised dealerships will improve the culture, business practices and positioning of our retail operations, said Bill Lovejoy, group vice president for North America VSSM. |
