Mercedes debuts four new models
at the Detroit Auto Show
The International Auto Show in Detroit saw the introduction of three new models from Mercedes Benz. They include three new C-Class models and the SLK32 AMG roadster. The C-Class additions are the high-performance C32 AMG sedan, the C230 Sports Coupe and a wagon.

The new SLK32 AMG roadster is powered by a 349-hp supercharged and intercooled V6 engine, and offers impressive acceleration, handling ability and braking performance. A new five-speed automatic features SpeedShift programming which, when activated, calculates gear changes with top performance in mind. It mates the fully retractable hardtop SLK-Class with Mercedes-AMG’s unique high-performance engineering.

The SLK32 AMG will go on sale in the U.S. in the fall of 2001.

The C32 AMG sedan utilizes the same 349-hp supercharged and intercooled V6 engine and five-speed automatic as the SLK32 AMG, delivering acceleration, handling and braking performance said to rival sports cars. Preliminary data notes 0-60 acceleration in roughly five seconds and the C32 AMG’s unique brakes can shed that speed with the same authority.

The C32 AMG will go on sale in the U.S. in the fall of 2001.

Expanding the C-Class lineup into a full model range, the C230 Sports Coupe is powered by a supercharged and intercooled 190-hp engine. The trim coupe also features an optional panoramic sunroof with an almost uninterrupted skyward view from windshield header to tailgate. All C-Class safety engineering is standard, including smart front airbags that deploy with partial force in more minor impacts, door-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags, plus ESP stability control. Available with either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic with TouchShift, the new C230 Sports Coupe will go on sale in the U.S. in the fall of 2001.

Offering generous storage capacity of up to about 50 cubic feet, the new C-Class wagon offers room large, bulky items while providing all the safety engineering of the heralded C-Class sedan mentioned above.

Available with a 3.2-liter, 215-hp V6, the 2002 model-year C320 wagon will go on sale in the U.S. in the fall of 2001.
