GM to build Cadillac roadster
General Motors will build its new Cadillac Evoq roadster at its Bowling Green, Ky. plant, where the Corvette is made. The Evoq, expected to arrive in dealerships in 2002, received rave reviews when it was shown as a concept vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show last year. The two-seater, GM's first since the short-lived Allante was discontinued in 1992, will have a body made of composite plastic, similar to the Corvette. The vehicle is a key part of Cadillac's strategy to rebuild its brand image. Cadillac was the top-selling luxury vehicle brand in the United States until 1998, and has fallen out of favor of younger buyers who favor German or Japanese vehicles.
