GM to build Hot-Rod truck
General Motors Corp. confirmed it will build the Chevrolet SSR, a sporty V8 powered pickup truck with hot-rod-styling, designed to break the automaker’s image for only making mainstream vehicles.

The retro-looking, retractable hardtop two-seat SSR — short for Super Sport Roadster, will go into production in late 2002.

Inspired by the Chevy Corvette and American pickup trucks from the late 1940s and early 1950s, it features flared front and rear fenders, and a strong aluminum bar across the grille and over round headlighs. True to Chevy heritage, the SSR will be powered by a small-block V8.
