| A Census Bureau report released in October confirms the growing number of sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) on U.S. highways. SUV registrations increased by 93 percent between 1992 and 1997. For the 10-year period from 1987 to 1997, SUV registrations more than tripled, according to the report.
These increases are supported by auto sales reports that show the light truck category, made up of SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans, now account for nearly half of the auto sales in the U.S. market. |
