North Kitsap Auto Rebuild has earned the coveted EnviroStars 5-Star designation. The Poulsbo collision repair shop met the 5-star levels significant requirements for hazardous waste minimization and pollution prevention and demonstrated extensive measures to protect air quality.
It was also recognized by a special project developed by EnviroStars, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA), and two auto body trade associations. For its efforts, North Kitsap Auto Rebuild was not only awarded 5-star status, but an annual $200 rebate on its PSCAA permit fee.
Jim Sund who has owned North Kitsap Auto Rebuild since 1996, is very pleased. Its great to be recognized for doing the right thing, he said.
EnviroStars Coordinator Elizabeth McCloskey emphasized that Sund is truly a leader in his field. Jim has been dedicated to creating a high-caliber shop where employee safety and environmental health are top priorities. He has upgraded his paints and equipment, improved waste handling and storage practices, increased recycling rates, and provided outstanding leadership to the industry through his work as Director of the local chapter of the Autobody Craftsman Association (ACA). Sund is currently serving as ACA Secretary at the state level and continues to be involved in local associations.
Along with assistance from EnviroStars, local consultant Fred Arnold of Arnold and Associates helped Sund and his staff fine-tune operations at North Kitsap Auto Rebuild. Rosemary Busterna of PSCAA took part in the recent site visit and shop evaluation and commented, I was very impressed with their commitment to safety. North Kitsap Auto Rebuild is a good example of a business doing the right thing and doing it well.
