Marian Holt McLain became the first Executive Director of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, on July 1. The announcement was made by board president Susan Levy announced at the organization’s annual meeting June 18.

Former gallery director Janice Shaw will continue on with BAC as artistic director. Pat Sprouse will be retail gallery manager.

The way to get high-speed telecommunications for all of Bainbridge Island is to prove the need for it. And that is what the Bainbridge Economic Council wants to do — if it can raise enough money for an appropriate survey.

Answering nearly 125,000 requests for services and information, increasing membership, and expanding insurance coverage for members top the list of Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce accomplishments last year.

The 2000 annual report, released Jan. 20 by executive director Jack MacArthur, itemizes expanded services for both members and the general community with only a slight increase in the chamber’s paid staff and despite a 15 percent decrease in volunteer hours.

Membership increased by 20 percent to 631 members. read more »
