Bainbridge Athletic Club Tennis StructureBainbridge Island tennis aficionados have two more courts where they can come in out of the rain to play.

The Bainbridge Athletic Club’s new steel tennis building is up and running, giving the Club a total of five indoor tennis courts.

The Last Word

As of this writing, this year’s legislative session is winding down, with the focus narrowing to closing the projected $2.8 billion budget deficit. The Democratic-controlled legislature has made it abundantly clear it doesn’t give a damn what voters facing the worst economic times since the Great Depression think or want. Both the House and Senate votes to suspend I-960 sent a clear message that the state employee unions — who bused in thousands of people off work for the President’s Day holiday to counter the Push Back Rally — are in charge, not the people who voted them into office. read more »

“This is Don Benton.” said the voice on the telephone.

I don’t know that I was expecting a call. State Sen. Don Benton of Vancouver was the subject of one of the two columns I sent out last week to the newspapers that buy them and I was far from supportive of his announcement he will run against U.S. Sen. Patty Murray this year. read more »

"Waste not the smallest thing created, for grains of sand make mountains, and atomies infinity." ~E. Knight

Large ‘Silicone Valley’ corporations have been testing a new device created to generate power on the spot, without being connected to the electric grid. After almost a decade of development and hundreds of millions in investment, Bloom Energy is coming out with theirs having unveiled their little “power plant-in-a-box” on 60-minutes aired Sunday, February 21. Until now, all journalists were able to garner were “no comments” from their marketing people. read more »

The first microbrewery in Washington to can its own beer

Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal 2303: 7 Seas Brewing ExpandsMike Runion and Travis Guterson take their beer seriously. So seriously, that the two 20-somethings decided to partner up about three years ago to bring a microbrewery to Gig Harbor. 7 Seas Brewing (www.7seasbrewing.com), not yet a year old, has been doing so well, it’s already expanded its brewing capacity. And in another month, the two entrepreneurs will charter new territory: 7 Seas will become the first microbrewery in Washington state to can its beer.

It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Last year, the brewery was devastated by a fire. Located in downtown Gig Harbor at the time, 7 Seas lost as much as 80 percent of its equipment to the blaze. They were a day away from their building inspection and about six weeks away from starting production. read more »

2010 Nissan FrontierBack in the 1970’s, Nissan, then known as Datsun, was first to market in the U.S. with a compact pickup — well before Ford, Chevy, Dodge — or Toyota. That truck has morphed into today’s Frontier.

Nissan seriously upped the ante in 2005, redesigning the Frontier, and capturing the leading edge of this market segment. The Frontier is built on the same rugged F-Alpha platform as the full-size Titan pickup, Armada and Pathfinder SUVs. Naturally, they share a number of significant features including fully boxed all-steel, body-on-frame construction. read more »

2011 Ford FiestaThe momentum for the 2011 Ford Fiesta began with over 6,000 reservations and more than 100,000 handraisers, months ahead of its launch this summer. All 50 states are represented, with interest from both Ford and non-Ford customers. In fact, 51 percent of Fiesta reservations are from non-Ford customers. The top non-Ford sources of reservations are coming from Honda, Toyota, Jeep and Saturn owners. 2010 Ford Escape HybridThe big $4.00/$5.00@ gallon gas scare seems to have subsided in the wake of tougher economic times, but the push to save resources and “drive green” hasn’t. The fact that people aren’t panicking about gas prices makes now an even better time to purchase a hybrid. When crazy second stickers were in force they wiped out much of the financial savings afforded by hybrids. If you buy one now with a more noble green philosophy you’ll still end up saving the folding type of green. read more »

2010 Acura TSXAcuras are wonderful long distance cars. They’re built so well and so comfortable that the miles just melt away. I’ve always felt that Acura cars were based on outstanding engineering. That super solid basis comes through when covering multi-state distances.

The precision engineering shines on boring freeways and even more on secondary roads. The Acura TSX is a nimble sedan read more »
