Mor Mor owners John and Laura NesbyPoulsbo’s MorMor restaurant turned five years old in June, and owner/chef John Nesby said the anniversary was a good occasion to review what the business has done well, and find new ways to grow.

“Our goal five years ago was to have a restaurant for the locals from the locals,” he said. That goal continues to be the primary focus of the establishment, which Nesby owns with his wife, Laura.

When the restaurant opened, one of the unique aspects was the menu that changed daily, depending on the best local bounty available on the market. That idea has since evolved into having seasonal menus with daily specials, and Nesby said being flexible is still an important part of being able to use local ingredients.

MorMor uses produce from local farmers, when possible — for example, salad greens and tomatoes come from an organic Poulsbo farm. read more »

 

YMCA of Tacoma-Pierce County recently announced two new members joined the board of directors: James E. Carmichael and Linda L. Gutmann.

Carmichael previously served on the Gig Harbor Family YMCA Capital Campaign and has been a YMCA member since 1990. He has been president and CEO of Kitsap Bank for 24 years and brings his experience in finance and strategic expertise to the board.

“I look forward to working with the members of this Board, guiding and supporting the YMCA’s mission of building stronger kids, families and communities,” said Carmichael. read more »

 

Some 90 cancer-survivors were registered, many of whom participated in the first lap of the evening, and the last lap the following afternoon. Over $48,000 had been brought in for the American Cancer Society.

The team raising the most money was Barb’s Babes, bringing in $7,714. The Mighty Methodists collected the most online, and the new team with the highest income was the Lively Ladies of the Lake Red Hat Society. read more »

Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) celebrates the summer by hosting its 8th Annual Care to Jazz Gala Benefit, July 17, 5:30-10:30 p.m. at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. The evening event features no-host cocktails, buffet dinner, silent, live and dessert auctions, dancing and jazz entertainment by Duane Wright and The Jazz Unlimited Band. Washington state’s Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) agency is getting a makeover, changing its name on July 26 to Washington State Department of Commerce. To create changes that will come after that — essentially, a reorganization and new vision — the department is asking for input from a variety of groups. read more »
