The Gym at the Pavilion recently acquired a Pilates Reformer and is holding training sessions for members.

Betsy Emison, a STOTT Pilates trained and certified instructor, is available to conduct private lessons on Wed., Fri. and Sat. mornings from 7 a.m. to noon.

Pilates is a conditioning program that simultaneously stretches and strengthens the deep abdominal and back muscles which enhances posture and trunk stability while trimming and toning the body. Pilates is designed to work for everyone from the most physically fit to the elderly. read more »

Drs. Joyce and Dave Middendorf, owners and operators of Mile Hill Chiropractic, located at 4519 SE Mile Hill Rd. in Port Orchard, were recently honored with the “President’s Award” by the Washington State Chiropractic Association . They received the award in recognition of their longstanding commitment and years of service to the chiropractic profession. They were presented with the award at the recent WSCA Annual Conference held in Tukwila.

 

Local Realtor Brenda Prowse has been voted “2003/2004 Person of the Year” by members of the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce. The award was announced May 8, during a banquet celebrating the Chamber’s 50th year of service to the Poulsbo community. read more »

 

My first exposure to Ronald Reagan was at governors’ conferences in the 1970s.

Hard as it may be to believe, he was not popular with his peers. He arrived late for everything and was regarded by other governors as a scene-stealer, because the minute he’d enter a room, the press would rush to his side, he being the most colorful and quotable of the bunch. He was always surrounded by a phalanx of bodyguards who made sure strangers didn’t get too close. read more »

The Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board recently released a report which found that, “even in the midst of a recession, among Washington state employers attempting to hire, 45 percent had difficulty finding qualified job applicants in 2003. read more »

The people of Gig Harbor have been telling their elected officials and the Department of Transportation for ten years that their little scheme to extort toll money from us to build a new bridge that will only add one new HOV lane in each direction wouldn’t solve the traffic problems and we’re seeing the tip of the iceberg right now. Three years after a proposal was made to nearly double the building size allowed in Gig Harbor’s so-called West Side, the city council recently sealed the change. The district’s Business-2 zone will now allow buildings up to 65,000 square feet instead of being limited at 35,000.

The change followed the argument that, among other things, West Side cannot be competitive with other areas, notably Gig Harbor North where Target and Home Depot are located, because you can’t find an anchor tenant that would only take 35,000 square feet. read more »

Rice Fergus Miller Architecture & Planning recently hired Reuben Rios and Pamela Morrison to its staff.

Rios will focus on many of the firm’s community projects. His experience includes designing spaces for Starbucks and American Express, as well as projects in the health care sector. Rios carries a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University.

Morrison has been hired as the firm’s new Office Manager. She has an Associates of Science degree in Accounting from Modesto Junior College in California.
