Dr. Derek Boyden of Olympic Surgical Associates in Port Orchard recently attended a workshop in Vancouver, Wash., sponsored by Allergan, Medicis Aesthetics and Candela Lasers. The physician guest speaker for the event was Dr. W.M. Phillip Werschler, M.D., who is an assistant clinical professor in medicine and dermatology at the University of Washington.

At the workshop, live injection techniques featuring Botox were demonstrated as well as additional training with the Candela Laser. read more »

Local Home Builders Associations, National Association of Home Builders members and Women’s Councils can now order the 16-page Bob the Builder “Blueprints for Home Safety” activity book that teaches young children about avoiding accidents and injuries in their homes. The publication features a full-color cover, a pullout poster and conveys 10 important safety points.

The book also directs children, parents, and caregivers to a home safety web site, www.bobthebuilder.com/blueprints, which includes information and games associated with home safety. read more »

Building Industry Association of Washington officials are grinning and wringing their hands with glee following Gov. Gary Locke’s reported announcement that he may embark on a building career.

“I would love to see Governor Locke in the homebuilding business,” says BIAW President Gary Cronce. “He would face the same hurdle other builders face.”

Cronce revels in all the ironies he sees in the possibility of Locke facing skyrocketing workers’ compensation rates and difficulty paying for liability insurance. read more »

They are: President, Bob Simonoff, President of Nationwide Floor and Window Coverings; Vice President, Judy Bertolini, an independent beauty consultant representing Mary Kay Cosmetics; Secretary/Treasurer, Molly Walker, a real estate agent with Windermere Real Estate/Westsound in Poulsbo;

The Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce announced that North Kitsap’s Jim Martin has accepted the position as new executive director of the chamber. Martin fills the position that was vacated by Robert Ford at the end of July 2003. Ford held the post for six years until he took a position as associate publisher for Visitors Choice Publications, the current publisher of the chamber sanctioned visitors guide. Past board member Gary Hoskins stepped in from August to October for a three month appointment to help with transitional issues while the board started an executive search. read more »

Kitsap Credit Union has named Connie Rouse as its new PSNS branch manager. Rouse bring over 16 years of financial service experience to this position.

Rouse will focus on increasing awareness that Kitsap Credit Union is here for Naval Station Bremerton employees, active and retired military men and women. This PSNS branch is located next to the Commissary and Exchange.

 

I saw an interesting story this past weekend on King 5’s “Up Front” with Robert Mak on replacing the $4 Billion Alaska Way Viaduct in Seattle. Here’s how the Seattle insiders say they will pay for it;
