Dr. Derek Boyden of Olympic Surgical Associates in Port Orchard recently attended a workshop in Vancouver, Wash., sponsored by Allergan, Medicis Aesthetics and Candela Lasers. The physician guest speaker for the event was Dr. W.M. Phillip Werschler, M.D., who is an assistant clinical professor in medicine and dermatology at the University of Washington.

At the workshop, live injection techniques featuring Botox were demonstrated as well as additional training with the Candela Laser. read more »

 

On April 22, the Washington Health Foundation bestowed the coveted Heroes of Health Care award in four categories.

Award winners were selected after a wide-ranging internal and external nominating process, and are all active leaders in improving health across the state.

“Our Heroes of Health Care awards are a highlight of the year,” said Greg Vigdor, president and CEO of the Washington Health Foundation .

Beginning April 1, KPS Health Plans, began offering a new Sound Harbor Basic healthcare plan for small business.

The new plan improves on the previous Business Basic plan by incorporating new benefits for maternity, mental health and Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction and slightly decreasing other benefits to maintain the low premiums enjoyed by Business Basic customers.

“This new Sound Harbor Basic plan will offer small businesses more options based on their premium rate needs,” said company President Elizabeth Gilje. read more »

 

The Gym at the Pavilion has recently announced a strategic partnership with Bainbridge Island Physical Therapy .

BIPT has opened a satellite office at the gym to provide patients with the resources the gym offers coupled with specialized physical therapy services available for current Gym members. read more »

The new Doctor’s Clinic facility currently under construction in Silverdale within sight of the new Harrison Silverdale campus. After almost 60 years of serving the Kitsap community, The Doctors Clinic plans an expansion that would add a new clinic as well as new services. A new, 53,000-square-foot building is currently under construction in Silverdale. read more »

 

Bremerton-based KPS Health Plans began offering four healthcare plans for individuals and families in King County last March. Now, the company has announced it has once again expanded its reach to include all of the counties in Western Washington.

KPS has been providing healthcare insurance products in the Western Puget Sound region since 1946. Last year, the company began offering small group products in King County, as well as individual and Medicare supplement products. read more »

 

A tiny camera that looks like an oversized pill has been used in the last few years to diagnose some gastrointestinal system problems that can’t be detected by other means. In fact, the camera sort of works like a pill — swallow it and go about your day. As the camera travels through the digestive system, it transmits digital images to a belt-worn recorder that are later downloaded into a computer. read more »

 

Harrison’s new rooftop helipad — part of the hospital’s $13-million ER expansion that opened last month — was tested on March 25, with a trial landing and takeoff by a crew from Airlift Northwest. The Seattle-based non-profit firm operates the region’s medical air transport service. read more »
