Lary Coppola has made it perfectly clear that when it comes to Tort Reform, his objective requires no objectivity.
Debating an issue requires more than offering your own opinion — it is a two-way street requiring the exchange of ideas. Contrary to his previous statements, I, in fact, led the public debate on this issue last year by calling for an exceptional three-hour hearing on ESSB 5728. Mr. Coppola doesn’t seem to believe that actions occur if they run counter to his opinion. In case you missed it, it was the hearing doctors attended wearing their white coats and stethoscopes. read more »

I have been reading up on the issue of Tort Reform and found a quote showing the aggregate cost of medical related claims to the insurance companies. The information claimed that the impact of these claims on insurance rates was not significant.

The REAL cause of raising premiums was deemed to be the slumping stock market. The “slump” certainly found its way into the premiums. I am not sure that the 2003 stock market improvement did the same. Heard the other day on MSNBC that Safeco had record earnings for 2003. read more »

I don’t believe Mr. Coppola is being at all “combative” about Tort Reform as Stare Representative Pat Lantz has alleged. What he’s done is point out the fact that Rep. Lantz has betrayed the trust of every citizen in the State of Washington by not letting this issue reach the House floor for debate.

They say that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It appears that Rep. Lantz, in her position of absolute power over which bills reach the House floor and which ones don’t, has been absolutely corrupted by her comrades in arms, the trial lawyers. read more »

But then of course what will we do with all the over-educated psychology graduates turned out yearly by our colleges and universities? Guess they need work!

For any growing and changing business the purchase of capital goods is standard. Equipment is fairly easy to assess the return on investment, however, a non-tangible product such as software can be more challenging. As with any ROI model three dimensions should be incorporated at minimum. First, the net tangible benefits or the net financial savings or gains that can be easily quantified. Second, the net intangible benefits, the net savings or benefits from the solution that are significant to business goals, strategy or operations. read more »

It can be very confusing when it comes time to figure out when and if you need an electrical permit. For homeowners business owners that decide to do some “do-it-yourself” wiring, permits and inspections may or may not be required. A licensed electrician may or may not be required. read more »
